The first IMPACT conference (Innovative
Military Partnerships Advancing Commercial Transport) was held at
CSULB on September 30th. Lt. General Ken Wykle provided the keynote
address “The Impact of CCDoTT’s Innovative Work on the Global
Transportation System” to a packed audience of over 130 people.
This one-day event included briefings about current CCDoTT projects,
and workshops focused on specific technology sectors. The purpose
was to elicit practical suggestions for eventual technology transfer
and to tentatively match innovations with potential end-users.
Representatives were in attendance from all targeted areas:
commercial transportation - marine terminals, shipping lines, ports,
ILWU, consultants; U.S. military - SSC San Diego, USTRANSCOM; and
Government agencies - Federal and State legislative representatives,
Maritime Administration, California Department of Transportation,
and State Universities.
The conference opened with remarks by Dr. Robert Maxson, President of
CSULB, showing his strong support for CCDoTT and University research
programs. CCDoTT Advisory Committee Chairman James Ackerman, Esq.
and the rest of the Board members were also on hand to help
facilitate the event and answer any questions.
IMPACT 2003 highlighted and emphasized the interaction between and
among CCDoTT’s projects. Attendees provided valuable suggestions and
recommended actions for moving CCDoTT technologies forward.
This seminar was hugely successful in validating the technology
vision developed by CCDoTT, and showing that these technologies can
be transferred to actual practice. An example of tangible results of
the CCDoTT program was evidenced by the Duffy Boat on display
outside the conference hall allowing a view of the Hydrogen
On-Demand system (see presentation and photos).
Our thanks go out to Marianne Venieres, Mary Barton, all attendees,
staff and Advisory Board members who helped to make this event
happen.
